Mountain Biking

Baja California Sur is home to some incredible MTB trail systems with trails for all abilities. The trails in BCS are a great way to explore the desert landscape and many of the trails offer beautiful views of the oceans. La Ventana and Todos Santos boast multiple trail systems.

  • La Ventana: A well-known bike shop in LV is The Bike Hub. They offer full suspension bike and helmet rentals for half days, full days, or multiple days. La Ventana is home to 70 miles of bike trails that are maintained by the local MTB Association. While you’re in La Ventana, check out Rancho Cacachilas and the work they are doing in the area. They are a ranch dedicated to environmental protection and education and are responsible for creating 37 miles of world-class hiking and mountain biking trails. The ranch also hosts dinners like pizza nights, dinner and movie nights, cheesemaking workshops, and mountain classes. Be sure to check them out if you’re in the area and enjoy the trails!

  • Todos Santos: Home to 116 miles of mountain biking trails, Todos Santos offers trails for all riding abilities. There are 2 different trail systems. One trail system, Las Tunas, starts from behind the Colorado State University Campus and the other, Sierra Madre, starts to the north of town. The trail system in Las Tunas offers rolling hills and everything from beginner to advanced trails. My favorite trail is the Sierra Madre trail (in the aptly named trail system) - it offers fun singletrack with great climbs and fast and flowy descents with beautiful views of the town of Todos Santos and the Sierra de la Laguna mountain range to the east. Another favorite of mine is the Puerto Viejo trail that starts from in town and leads you past the ruins of an old cannery and up to cliff-top views of the old port of Todos Santos. From the summit of the trail, you look down on a picture-perfect beach at the bottom of quintessential cliffs falling into the Pacific Ocean.
